Stir the Gift of Prophecy

Stir the Gift of Prophecy

The gift of prophecy is emphasized more throughout the Bible than the gift of tongues. It is the most common gift of the Bible. However, most believers who speak in tongues do not prophesy. While the gift of tongues is necessary, the gift of prophecy is more beneficial to the church than the gift of tongues.

                                                                                              Scriptures & Highlights

Many Pentecostal and Charismatic believers speak in tongues. Subsequent to the new birth, believers can receive the baptism of the Spirit for empowerment for ministry.

However, most believers who speak in tongues, do not prophesy. However, the gift of prophecy is more profitable to the body of Christ than the gift of tongues. Therefore, we need to build our faith to prophesy. As you seek to prophesy, take the following steps to build your confidence and stir the gift in your life.

Memorize the Scriptures Showing that Prophesying is a Common Manifestation of the Spirit’s Outpouring’.

Memorize scriptures that demonstrate that the outpouring of the Spirit brings prophetic utterance.

Prophecy is the most common gift in the Bible. The Bible is prophetic. God acts when He speaks and speaks when He acts. Therefore, it is no surprise that the most common spiritual gift in the Bible is prophecy. In the Old Testament, it was the prophets that performed most of the miracles. The Apostle Peter, Paul, and John all prophesied.

Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Privately Pray in Tongues with Interpretation of Tongues.

Practice to speak in tongues in your personal prayer life and expect God to give you the interpretation of the tongues. You can ask the Lord to grant you the interpretation so that you can pray with understanding (1 Corinthians 14:13-15). The interpretation of tongues is equal to a prophetic utterance. The Holy Spirit will give the understanding of the tongues if you desire it. This will stir you to begin prophesying in your own personal life.

Repeat Proven Prophecies.

Declare the prophecies of proven prophetic ministries. Find a proven prophetic ministry, and when they publicize a prophecy, declare it to others.

Develop Prophetic Literacy

Be dedicated to prayer and the study of the word like Anna and Simeon. Anna and Simeon both recognized Christ’s coming because of their commitment to seeking the Lord.

  • Study the fulfilled prophecies of Christ’s first coming.

  • Study the prophecies of Christ’s return.

  • Study the general prophecies of scripture.

Prophesy to Close Associates.

Pray for close relatives and friends, believing that God will speak prophetically through you into their lives. You may begin by praying for them in tongues, but ask God for the interpretation and prophesy as the Spirit moves you.
